My first time at Pubcon (2007)...I remember going out into the hall while a session was going on and joined a group of people listening to Matt talk through SEO issues. I'd never met Matt before and he stopped what he was saying, introduced himself to me (clearly recognizing me from an online photo), and told me he had read my blog posts. Over the years, he could not have been more friendly when I ran into him at conferences or when I snarked at him in social media. Though Matt was clearly a representative of Google and bound by certain policies, he humanized his interactions with the webmaster community in a way that set an example that hasn't been lived up to since (though Duane was also awesome).
