Matt was at the forefront of the search engine reforms that happened, and for the better. It was some of the things Matt had to say in his videos which really made me look at SEO from a completely different perspective. We had already been chasing rankings and traffic, but the advocacy Matt had for doing the basics really well brought about the new paradigm.

Funnily enough, I came across this quirky little video I guess 10 years ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GK0aQrCDEo) where Matt goes over some of the basics. So the biggest idea I got from Matt, which has stayed with me over the years is to always go back to basics.
