The first time I met Matt was at an SES conference out in San Jose, at my first and only Google Dance. I had no idea he knew who I was, so it was a real shock when I was invited inside one of the buildings with some friends and when he saw me he had a big smile and "Hi Kim!" There were pictures and things but that moment meant a lot to me. A few years later, at Pubcon, Matt was giving a talk and I was sitting in the front near the stage. For some reason I had a question and debated whether or not the question mattered, fit into his talk and if I had the nerve to ask it. I did and not only did he answer me, he acknowledged me by name and managed to convince me I did not ask a useless question. It was such an honor and shock that I have no idea what I said, but I did take this picture. Matt is one of my heroes. I admire his work and his career and am thankful for having met him. When someone you admire knows you exist, that's a confidence booster. When they treat you as if you might even be their friend (okay, we can pretend right?), that's even better.
